International Council Supporting Fair trial and Huma rights (ICSFT) statement condemning the terrorist attack in Beirut

Untitled

International Council Supporting Fair trial and Huma rights (ICSFT) Calls for: International Campaign to End Religious Terrorism The criminal arms have once again extended to strike against innocent civilians in the Southern Suburb of the Lebanese capital, Beirut. The suicide bombings were carried out by ISIS thugs on 12th November 2015 in crowded residential areas, killing at least 43 and wounding 239. We strongly condemn this heinous crime and stand in solidarity with the human rights activists and defenders in Lebanon and call for an urgent action by the international community. This terrorist attack, like so many before it, is an assault on fundamental human rights and democratic principles that are essential to a free society. Most importantly, the condemnation of these terrorist attacks onits own is not enough to critically address such a phenomenon that is growing in an alarming rate. Firm and effective policy and legal instruments are urgently needed in order to contain the organized terrorism and to help deter such phenomenon from proliferation that is seriously threatening international peace and security. Thereis an urgent need to review the religious textbooks that are part of the curriculumin the formal academia in the Gulf States as they are majorly contributing to the promotion of hatred and violence.  There are countless evidences which prove the serious and direct impact of such textbooks on young people who are engaging in terrorist operations. Owing to the instigation of religious teachings in schools, mosques and religious centers, ISIS is capitalizing from such teaching of extremism as its distinct virtue is organizing terrorist assaults against civilians at any cost. As such, the responsibility of such criminal attacks does not solely fall on the terrorist groups, but also on governments, religious establishments, religious leaders, and media outlets that are playing a pivotal role by feeding extremism through embracing a certain political stance which justifies the criminal acts. We express our sincere condolences to the families of those innocent people who lost their lives in terrorist attacks in Beirut, Lebanon. We also strongly demandthe international community to bring about legal and political mechanisms to undermine the infrastructure of terrorism in order to protect civilians worldwide and to bring peace and security to humanity as a whole. ICSFT strongly believes that condemnation needs to be translated into firm and urgent proportional measures. To illustrate, one way of operationalizing this can be by launching a multi-functioning international campaign that aims at drying out the sources of terrorism be it in terms of ideology or socio-economic and political means. With kind regards ختم المجلس الدولى
