Soyinka berates Buhari on continued detention of Sheikh Zakzaky as FFK chides the government

The renowned Nigerian Nobel Prize winner, Professor Wole Soyinka has spoken against the massacre of members of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria and the continued detention of Sheikh Ibrahim Zakzaky.

Speaking to a BBC interviewer as monitored recently, the Nobel Laureate used the term “massacre” to describe the brutal killing of minority Muslims in December 2015 in Zaria. He said the Buhari government has committed several errors that are worth criticising.

On the continued detention of the leader of the Islamic Movement, Soyinka said for him, it is “illogical and unwise, the continuing detention of their leader in jail. I don’t see why he (Buhari) is still keeping their leader. It is wrong and violates his human rights.”

In another related development, a former Minister of Aviation and a profound critic of the present administration, Mr. Femi Fani-Kayode aka FFK has chided the Buhari administration over the evil treatment meted Sheikh Ibraheem Zakzaky by the Army in Zaria in December, 2015.

Writing in a widely circulated piece, fFK wrote, “Sheik El ZakZaky, the leader of Nigeria’s Shiite Muslims, was shot and blinded in one eye, dumped in a wheelbarrow and has been illegally detained against court orders by the Nigerian security services for the last 700 days. So has his wife. This is heartless and unacceptable.”

Of recent, the Free Zakzaky Campaign train has gained tremendous momentum with more and more people coming out to condemn the Buhari administration over the blatant trampling of the rights of members of the Islamic Movement and the continued detention of Sheikh Zakzaky.
