ICSFT’s oral intervention for the adoption of Item 10 General Debate at the 38th HRC session
ICSFT would like to draw the council’s attention to Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, and Kuwait’s criminal justice system that fails to deliver basic accountability and impartial justice system as per international law. Fair and public trials by an independent and impartial tribunal have become a foreign concept in these countries. Civilians are tried in military and specialized criminal courts, and the judiciary system has been hijacked to criminalize dissent and maintain repressive political order. As well these governments’ refuse to engage with special procedures in good faith.
